Like Marvel? Have a Notebook, iPhone, iPod? Then check these out…
by Andrea on Mar.04, 2010, under Gadgets & Gear
While doing my morning web browsing, I came across a site that makes custom skins and covers for various techie devices that I thought I ‘d share with MTR’s illustrious readers…
The company is called GelaSkins (check out http://www.gelaskins.com/). Their newest collaboration is with Marvel — and they have made some pretty cool things to stick on your stuff. Who wouldn’t want Spidey to save their phone from unsightly scratches??
In addition to Marvel, they also have some stuff from Metal Gear Solid 4 (although that’s just for the iPod Touch and iPhone) and a Dark Horse Comics Collection, which includes the Dark Horse logo, Hellboy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Tim Burton’s Tragic Toys for Girls and Boys, amongst some others.
The best part — they use 3M “technology” for easy application and removal of the skins, so for klutzes like me, it may actually look good when I’m done.
Prices range from $14.95 for iPods and iPhones, $19.95 for Netbooks and $29.95 for most laptops and notebooks. Not every piece of artwork is available on every device though, so you need to see what they have.
Check some of them out below and hit up the Gelaskins’ website for the rest…

Putting The “Sport” Back In Sports Entertainment
by Josh on Mar.01, 2010, under WWE, Wrestling
Growing up I watched a lot of wrestling. Over the past ten years or so I’d drift in and out of it, watching for several weeks in a row and then not, mostly because the product was not consistent. Clearly, different people watch wrestling for different reasons. Some watch for a certain wrestler, others love the amazing high-risk moves, and people like me enjoy a good story mixed with good performances.
DC confirms next Batman adversaries…
by Handel on Feb.28, 2010, under DVD & Blu-Ray News & Reviews, Movies
.…and it’s not the Riddler, at least not yet. On the heels of The Dark Knight, Warner Premiere, Warner Brothers’ direct to video production branch plans to show you an even more disturbing Gotham this summer. “Batman: Under The Red Hood” plans to bring to life one of the darkest chapters in the detective’s history as he has to deal with a loss more tragic than the one that made him first don the cape and cowl. The creators have assured us that this one will be more violent than Christopher Nolan’s last blockbuster by describing the opening scene. Taken straight from the pages of the classic story “A Death In The Family,” fans will be treated to the Joker literally beating (Jason Todd) Robin to death. The irony here is that some might think this scene is too much for a PG-13 movie but it was actually the fans that voted to have Todd killed back in the ‘80s when DC gave them the choice. Batman has little time to grieve as a new vigilante arises in Gotham; one with a name he is already too familiar with — Red Hood. The big problem is that Red Hood is ready and willing to cross the line that Batman never will. Anyone that has kept up with the last few DC animated movies knows that these stories have been enjoyable and well written. I look forward to this one especially after hearing about the cast: Bruce Greenwood is Batman, Jensen Ackles is Red Hood, and none other than Neil Patrick Harris will voice the feature film debut of Nightwing! Looks to be a good summer this year in and out of theatres. I’ll leave you with the following quote by Batman on the Joker:
“All I’ve ever wanted to do was kill him…A day doesn’t go by where I don’t think about subjecting him to every horrendous torture he’s dealt out to others and then.…end him.”
Wow.

My Take On: MMA & Mainstream Media
by Rich on Feb.27, 2010, under MMA, Strikeforce, UFC News & Rants
It feels like only yesterday when I watched my first MMA event - which happened to be the original UFC Super Fight. After watching, I realized that this sport could only be on PPV due to the sheer amount of violence it presented. Since those days, the UFC obviously has come a long way — not only in terms of fights but also in allowing MMA to transcend the moniker of a “barbaric” sporting event. While the sport has numerous organizations and tons great fighters, the success of sport has always hinged on fans and it crossing over into the mainstream. The UFC slowly started getting real sponsors like Harley Davidson, Burger King and a host of others. MMA was slowly gaining acceptance and companies were embracing the promotion the sport got their products. Companies like BSN, which aren’t usually widely heard of, are a perfect example of MMA helping them become known in mainstream media. Now when I enter a GNC and see a Syntha-6 bottle it has a little UFC logo next to it. It is things like this that help move the sport forward.
Nowadays, you open a magazine and you see MMA fighters (both male and female) endorsing products. Whether it’s t-shirts, supplements or apparel, Mixed Martial Arts has become a viable marketing machine that captures the key demographics for a lot of products across the board.
Let’s not forget that MMA is now seen on broadcast TV, thanks in part to the now defunct EliteXC, as well as StrikeForce, which broadcasts on CBS. In addition to that, companies like Fathead are now acknowledging MMA fighters as “mainstream” athletes with “mainstream” appeal. You can now hear names like GSP, Fedor, Gina Carano, Chuck Liddell and many others mentioned in the same sentences as athletes like Michael Phelps, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Dwayne Wade. This shows that combat sports other than boxing have now assimilated themselves into today’s sports coverage and beyond.
Here are just a few examples of how MMA is now part of mainstream media.
My Take Radio-Episode 32-Recap
by Rich on Feb.26, 2010, under My Take Radio Episodes
Coming off the momentum of last weeks show there were tons of things to discuss. MMA talk covered UFC 110 as well as some talk about the Frank Mir incident. Wrestling news covered WWE NXT as well the Elimination Chamber PPV. Gaming talked was rage filled as usual with gripes about the state of online play on the PS3 and the Wii. Also gave my impression on the DSi XL and the impact it has on the e-reader market. Last but not least were the movies news for this week. Another lengthy discussion regarding comic book movies and the right and wrong facets of Hollywood filmmaking.
Here is some media for a few of the items that were discussed
