by Andrea on Aug.24, 2010, under TV, TV News
Are you tired of the summer reruns of everything? Me too! Ready to plop your behind on your couch instead of laying on the beach? Me too! Wait a minute, on second thought…
Well either way, luckily, I have the scoop on when our favorite time-wasting, boredom busting favorites will be back on the tube. Get out the Dortitos, your Snuggie and fuzzy slippers folks — and don’t forget to make sure your DVR is ready either!
Thank God it’s the final season of Smallville
by Handel on Aug.05, 2010, under TV, TV News
In season 9 of Smallville we saw the unofficial formation of the Justice League (again) after the old Justice Society kicked the crap out of them (mainly Hawkman) and then helped them stop a major threat. Kryptonsite.com has confirmed that the show is going to continue to introduce new characters, with at least one having no place on the show whatsoever.
I am referring to Deadshot, one of the greatest snipers/assassins in the DC universe. Why does he not belong? One word – BATMAN. Deadshot is a Batman villain and Smallville has already failed to show the greatest superhero team up of all time for nine years; that of Batman & Superman or at least having Bruce Wayne meet Clark Kent. I guess they should get consistency points for continued failure since season three. To make matters worse, Darkseid will appear this season – most likely he will be the big villain of the season but with no actual “Superman” on the show, how is that sensible? And how is this low budget show going to pull off Boom Tubes, Kalibak or any of the other inhabitants of Apokolips?
OK, rant over, let’s focus on some appearances that make sense. Hawkgirl will appear but it is not clear if she will be a present character or a flashback one since Hawkman said she died years ago. Hawkman returns this season and with him he will bring the likes of Booster Gold and the Blue Beetle. Booster Gold is perfect for closing out this show because his persona is utterly ridiculous…just as Smallville has become.
Chuck –Season 4.…who’s going to visit Buy-Moreia?
by Andrea on Aug.04, 2010, under TV, TV News
If you are like me, you are probably chomping at the bit for Chuck’s Season 4 premiere — coming to your tv sets September 20th.
Comic-Con was wonderful for divulging details on what’s going down, along with some pretty nifty (and one not-so-nifty) guest stars. Here’s what to expect when this fan-frakkin-tastic season gets under way:
- S4 will focus on the search for Mama Bartowski. Playing said mama will be none other than Linda Hamilton.
- In October, Nicole Richie will be reprising her role of Sarah’s high school nemesis Heather Chandler. We hear that she will resurface when a prison transfer goes awry and she ends up being stowed away at Castle. Word on the street is that she will be creating a rift in our beloved Chuck-Sarah romance. (Why wouldn’t it?)
- “Stone Cold” Steve Austin will also be reappearing in the same episode as baddie Hugo Panzer. Stunner anyone?
Also interesting, Zachary Levi (Mr. Bartowski himself) told EW’s Michael Ausiello the following: “The Buy More has now been taken over by the CIA and it’s a fully functioning operation by the government, so there are these constant agents that are in the store.” Hmmm.…cool way to go. With this, we will have an Agent named Greta, who will be played by multiple actors, both male and female. First up is my not-so-nifty reference - Olivia Munn. (Sorry, I hate her with a passion, for she lacks any discernable skills.) We will see her in the season premiere. Yay. Also on tap is Old-Spice guy Isaiah Mustafa as Greta V2.0 (really?) as well as former WWE-Diva Stacy Keibler as Greta V3.0. I am interested to see how this character is pulled off.
Newly announced as a guest star is The Incredible Hulk himself, Lou Ferrigno. Lou will be playing the bodyguard of an evil spy/model played by Victoria’s Secret Angel Karolina Kurkova. It wouldn’t be a season without some eye-candy spies (more so than Yvonne Strahovski, who we get every episode. ) Both Lou and Karolina will appear in the second episode of the season.
So we have good guests and an interesting story arcs ahead. Season 4 is shaping up to be another great one. I highly recommend that it become part of your Must-Watch List.
My Take On: G4
by Rich on Jul.27, 2010, under Columns & Features, General Gaming News, General Posts, TV, TV News, Video Games
According to Wikipedia G4 is the following:
G4, also known as G4 TV, is an American cable and satellite-television channel originally geared primarily toward viewers aged 12–34, based on the world of video games. More recently, the channel has diverted its focus to general-interest programming that mainly targets viewers aged 18–34, although one video game show is still offered on the channel.
Based on the definition above, you would think that the mainstream programming they offer would at least have a semblance of video game relevance. Sadly, in order to capture the 12–34 viewing cluster they have resorted to having the “hot chick” and the “good looking guy” give snarky commentary and perform skits to relate to the gaming audience. I have no issue with this strategy - EXCEPT that they have no real video game knowledge and are just really good at reading a teleprompter, or shall I say trying to read it (Olivia Munn, I am looking at you). I would rather have people that can be both eye candy and are intelligent. Get us a knowledgeable staff that actually adds dimension to the show.
My Take On: Burn Notice (and why you should be watching)
by Andrea on Jun.02, 2010, under TV, TV Show Reviews
I’ll be the first to say that I do not watch primetime serial shows on regular cable. Nothing has ever really grabbed my attention…until your illustrious host and I started watching Burn Notice on USA. (Characters welcome, indeed.) Now, I salivate at the thought of another hour of spy-goodness on my television (and also secretly wish to be a covert-op).
Created by Matt Nix, Burn Notice stars Jeffrey Donovan as Michael Westen our hero spy who has been “burned”, Gabrielle Anwar as Michael’s ex-girlfriend and explosives fanatic Fiona Glenanne, Bruce Campbell as semi-retired intelligence operative and former Navy SEAL Sam Axe and Sharon Gless as Michael’s mother, Madeline Westen.
About to premiere its fourth season, the show centers around Michael and his need to find out who burned him and to get back into the spy game. With a “burn notice”, a spy is wiped off the grid, without access to anything — a burned spy also has no prior work history, no money, no contacts — no identity.
In between trying to find out why he was burned, Michael, accompanied by Fiona and Sam, sets out helping hometown residents with problems only a spy can handle. (Michael was left by in the Miami, Florida when he was burned — which provides a great backdrop for the show), He becomes sort of a private investigator/spy –for-hire for anyone who needs it, getting in and out of trouble along the way.
This show provides excellent writing filled with wit and sarcasm, which I love in all my shows. Westen could not have been better cast — Jeffrey Donovan delivers lines with perfect timing, and you grow to wish you had him in your contact list. The chemistry between Michael and Fiona is palpable, and you will really love them as a on-again-off-again couple. Sam – or shall I call him by his fake name Chuck Finley, provides fantastic humor and is the needed corner to this super-spy trifecta.
If you do not have Burn Notice on your To-Watch List, get on it fast – Season 4 begins this Thursday, June 3rd at 9PM EST. If not, now is the perfect time to catch up on this great series –Get the first three seasons on DVD and check it out – I highly recommend it. USA has already renewed the show for both a fifth and a sixth season.
“Covert intelligence involves a lot of waiting around. You know what it’s like being a spy? Like sitting in your dentist’s reception area 24 hours a day. You read magazines, sip coffee, and every so often someone tries to kill you.” – Michael Westen
New Show Alert: CW’s “Nikita”
by Andrea on May.24, 2010, under TV, TV News
If you were lucky enough to go to the CW Upfronts, you got a chance to see some clips of their new fall shows. The only one I am semi-interested in, however, is the La Femme Nikita reboot simply called “Nikita”.
The series stars Maggie Q as the lead heroine, who is a spy and assassin gone rogue and out to bring down her former agency, Division. The series also stars Shane West (ER), Melinda Clarke (The O.C., The Vampire Diaries) and Lyndsy Fonseca (Katie in Kick Ass).
Nikita premieres at 9PM Thursdays this fall after The Vampire Diaries. Take a look at what is in store — will you be watching?
Smallville: Season 10 Here We Come.…
by Andrea on May.20, 2010, under TV, TV News
10 Seasons!
That’s what many of you are probably saying. How the h-e-double hockey sticks did Smallville make it to ten seasons? Well folks, it has. But, sadly (or not) that’s all we are getting from our favorite not-really-Superman-yet Clark Kent. At the CW Upfronts (and leaked by The Blur himself Tom Welling in an interview), it has been told to the world that Smallville will end it’s sucessful run with this coming season.
Also, we have learned that Allison Mack, who has played heroine Chloe Sullivan since Season 1, has opted NOT to come back as a series regular for the final season. However, she will be in several episodes to wrap Chloe’s story. I am sure many of you die-hard enthusiasts will be happy to hear this, as Chloe is not a real character in the DC Universe.

The Ultimate Fighter: A Look Back
by Andrea on May.05, 2010, under MMA, TV Show Reviews, UFC News & Rants
It’s hard to believe that The Ultimate Fighter has been gracing our television sets on Spike TV since 2005. I credit TUF with being the show that made me a Mixed Martial Arts fan. Honestly, I really didn’t know much about the sport before then, since obviously it was not as mainstream as it has grown to be now. My knowledge of the UFC was sadly, only that of Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn – and that was solely based upon my being a WWE fan.
I’d like to take a look back at all of the seasons and refresh our memories on what we have seen over the past five years. On top of all the MMA action, let’s not forget things like the Coaches’ Challenges, as well as all the drunken chaos and other entertaining stuff that has happened in the TUF house.
