1st Imperession-Spider-Man:Shattered Dimensions Trailer

by Rich on Mar.31, 2010, under Video Game Trailers, Video Games

Spider-Man games have been hit and miss for years and even the ones that were moderately good are considered week in terms of presentation and gameplay. This newest Spider-Man game puts you in the spandex and web shooters of four different Spider-Men from parallel dimensions  including the Spidey we all know and love. Their objective is to put together the Tablet of Order & Chaos which  I am sure will destroy the world in the wrong hands. With a story written by Marvel Comics Dan Slott it may be a lot better than it sounds. I wish that the company that did Arkham Asylum tried their hand at a Spidey game. Here’s the trailer to tide you over

Ultimate Fight Night Preview : Florian v Gomi

by Rich on Mar.31, 2010, under MMA, UFC News & Rants

File:UFC-FN21-.jpg

The great month of MMA continues with  Ultimate Fight Night 21 as well as the premiere of The Ultimate Fighter 11: Liddell v Ortiz. Takanori Gomi aka The Fireball Kid was the last Lightweight Champion for Pride and makes his Octogon debut against the always exciting Kenny Florian. I have always been a Gomi fan from his Pride days, simply because he’s had exciting fights. Here are my picks for the main card:

Main Card

  • Lightweight bout: Kenny Florian vs Takanori Gomi — I never take Florian lightly, and even though I like Gomi his weight cut looked tough and I don’t know how he will adjust to the cage. Ken Flo wins
  • Heavyweight bout: Roy Nelson vs Stefan Struve — Struve wants to stand with Nelson and I am sure Roy will gladly do so. I see Roy taking it to the ground and smothering him. Big Country is taking this one.
  • Middleweight bout: Nate Quarry vs. Jorge Rivera — I like both fighters and Quarry seems ready to go to war. I am gonna go with Rivera though because I am seeing an upset. Rivera Wins.
  • Lightweight bout: Ross Pearson vs. Dennis Siver– Ross Pearson made a fan with his last UFC performance and I think he’s going to continue running through lightweights. Pearson Wins.

Rape Simulation Games? WTF!!!!

by Rich on Mar.31, 2010, under General Gaming News, Video Games

As a gamer, I have come across some weird shit in my day. From Custer’s Revenge to the newest being Rapelay, sexual games have always existed and as the technology improves, so does the realism and debauchery that is being offered. More often than not these games are usually laughed at due to the sheer sillyness they depict. Earlier today, I received an email from my friend and fellow MTR staff member Josh regarding a news story from CNN about adult games. In the piece that I am attaching to this article, the reporter is investigating the hentai gaming sub-culture and the main game that was discussed was Rapelay. The concept of Rapelay is revenge via rape. Your character is fired by a female boss and you mission is to follow your former boss as well as her sister and mother on trains and rape them. Sure sounds like fun right? Of course the CNN piece made it a point to state that these games are making their way to our shores and are becoming easily accessible. While I agree a game simulating rape is awful, do these reporters think that the Japanese government gives a shit? I ask this because CNN demands they become involved and prevent games like this from being sold. It always amuses me that people expect others to protect and educate their children and how sensitive we have become. We all like our share of risqué things from Maxim to Playboy to Hustler to big boobs in games - we are always being exposed to something sexual. Again, I do not condone the subject matter of the game but feel that as adults we have the freedom to enjoy things no matter how weird they are.  Have a look at the article and the video and feel free to share your thoughts. I am going to head out and see if Wal-Mart is selling hentai games in the kids section.

Here is the CNN article as well.

1st Impression: Metroid: Other M

by Rich on Mar.30, 2010, under Video Game Trailers, Video Games

Metroid has always had a cult following due to its deep storyline and engaging gameplay. When Metroid ventured into FPS territory it was received with mixed results and as such splintered the fan base. When the announcement was made that Team Ninja was doing the next Metroid installment fans were not sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing. The only thing fan knew was that Samus would be more voluptuous and have better boob physics . Other M takes the Ninja Gaiden style gameplay and mixes in FPS features to bring you a unique entry in the storied Metroid franchise. Check out the trailer and decide if Team Ninja will do this franchise justice.

by Andrea on Mar.30, 2010, under TV, TV News

Sadly, it’s that time of year again. The time of year where TV networks are deciding what shows they are going to axe, and what shows they are keeping around for another season. Unfortunately folks, prepare to wait for most of the outcomes as the Network Upfronts are in mid-May.

The End Of The Heartbreak Era

by Rich on Mar.30, 2010, under WWE, Wrestling

On March 28, 2010,  the world got to see the “last match” in the legendary career of Shawn Michaels. As a wrestling fan, I truly feel old watching it all unfold. I’ve been watching wrestling since I was a kid and I remember The Rockers vs. The Hart Foundation, Michaels turning on Jannetty, his first WWF title win, Montreal and many other memories. To watch it all end, while unfortunate, is the right thing since it now allows a “new face’” to move up the rung.

Shawn Michael’s last match was against The Undertaker, whom he faced for the second time after losing to him at Wrestlemania 25. Their previous match was awesome from start to finish and quite frankly, is the measuring stick of in-ring storytelling. Their second match was more of the same, but this match had “the career” of HBK and “the streak” of the ‘Taker on the line. Both guys delivered what will be remembered as one of the best matches in recent memory.

Here is a video package capturing some of HBK’s best moments, as well as highlights from this past weekend’s Wrestlemania 26.

Who do you think has the right combination of talent and athleticism to carry on the HBK legacy?

Slick’s Quick Hits: The Nintendo DSi XL

by Handel on Mar.29, 2010, under Gadget & Gear Reviews, Gadgets & Gear, Video Games

Nintendo’s new DSi XL

Yesterday, Nintendo pulled out the good ol’ beat you in the head stick and released another winner in the Nintendo DSi XL. The fourth incarnation of Nintendo’s dual-screened handheld is for the most part just a giant sized DSi, but it is a little bit more. For $20 more than the DSi, it had better be. Let me start with the bad and get that out of the way. Being a long time gamer and long time Nintendo fan, it was disappointing when the original DS came out and we learned that it would not support Game Boy games. When the portable dropped it’s original “tank” configuration and became the DS Lite, people were happy that it fit in their pockets and that it still had the GBA slot. Last year, the portable “evolved” into the DSi and it gained two cameras, internet access and an SD card slot along with a new UI which was reminiscent of the Wii menu. This evolution involved the complete loss of any Game Boy compatibility. The DSi XL, while larger than the DSi or Lite, still does not show the Game Boy or Game Boy Advance any love and this really sucks for someone who may have a large collection of those older games. One would find this exceptionally strange from a financial standpoint because of the continued success of the title Pokémon. Not one, not two, but five Nintendo DS titles with the Pokémon name have a significant attachment to the Game Boy Advance. The Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold and SoulSilver versions of the game all feature an area in their game world called the Pal Park, which allows the player to plug in the GBA titles Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed and LeafGreen in order to send pocket monsters from those games to the DS games. To me, the move makes no sense, but it is what it is.

No 3D For Transformers 3

by Josh on Mar.25, 2010, under Movies, Upcoming Movie News

One person who isn’t jumping on that bandwagon though is Michael Bay. Deadline Hollywood says Bay remains skeptical of the technology, specifically the ‘up conversion’ process used to transform 2D films into 3D (ala “Alice in Wonderland,” “Clash of the Titans”).

I shoot complicated stuff, I put real elements into action scenes and honestly, I am not sold right now on the conversion process… Right now, it looks like fake 3D, with layers that are very apparent… People can say whatever they want about my movies, but they are technically precise, and if this isn’t going to be excellent, I don’t want to do it and it is my choice” says Bay.

Credit goes to DarkHorizons.com
Bay did apparently do some early tests on the viability of shooting “Transformers 3″ with 3D cameras but found them “too heavy and cumbersome” for the way he shoots.
