1st Impression: Karate Kid Trailer

by Rich on Jan.10, 2010, under Movie Trailers, Movies

For months I have heard about the possible remake of The Karate Kid, and I said to myself, “the plot is simple and to the point, so the odds of getting it wrong are slim”. Sadly, I was mistaken with that assessment. The basic premise goes as follows: Single mom and son move to new home — son has trouble fitting in — son takes a liking to popular girl — boyfriend/bully makes life hard for the son — son meets janitor who is martials art master — son learns to fight and beat bully/boyfriend in tournament or contest of some sort.  How easy does that sound? It has been used in countless movies and is usually okay.

I’ll leave you with this: Karate = Japanese martial art.  Jackie Chan = Chinese.  The boy =  learning Kung Fu. Oh yeah, and it’s called The Karate Kid. You be the judge:

You have to be joking right. Unless you want to see how bad it is. I see this movie destined for failure. More than likely it’ll see regular rotation on the Disney channel  (Quote)

I was thinking the exact same thing… Karate is a Japanese martial art!.. urgh. And of course they had to put rap in the trailer, because the kid is black, right? Anyways.. looks pretty lame, but I’m sure I’ll still watch it. I’ll wait til it comes out on DVD, though. Hey, I’m still a movie and martial arts guy.. so it’s inevitable that I’m eventually going to see it, lol.  (Quote)

I agree with Mortis, and besides, I’m a sucker for training Montages.
I do find it funny that the kid lives in Asia, and they just happened to cast the tiniest black kid in the universe.
Stereotypically, he should be towering over the Asians like God-fucking-Zilla, but they’re all pushing him around and shit, this plot isn’t even realistic!!
    haha.  (Quote)

LoL, the kid reminds me of Riley from Boondocks, and Jackie Chan is no Mr. Miyagi. This movie looks entertaining at best, but it also has the feeling that all those stupid Dance Flicks have. I’ll definitely see this AFTER it’s out of theaters. I’m not paying to see it.  (Quote)

This reminds me of Jackie’s old old OLD school kung fu movies where it involves unorthodox (sometimes extreme) methods of teaching kung fu from an unexpecting teacher. Drunken style boxing to a 10 year old anyone? lol

Another thing is…why is Jackie beating up a bunch of kids???

Anyways…I just hope they explain why the kid’s learning kung fu for a karate tournament.  (Quote)
